I discovered yoga in 2000. My first class was Iyengar style and I really didn’t care for it at all. Luckily for me, I kept going because I had purchased a 8 week intro series and I was determined to get my money’s worth. Before I finished that intro series I discovered Power Yoga and I was hooked. Power was a lot like the gymnastics and ballet classes I grew up with. Eventually I discovered that asana was only 1 limb of the very important 8-limbed path. It took many years, but I eventually discovered the power of meditation. I need to be more consistent with my meditation.
I’ve taken well over 3000 yoga classes over the years and estimate I’ve taught around 1000. My 200 YTT certification is in Raja Yoga. I have training in Vinyasa, Power, Baptiste, Jivamukti, Iygengar, Bikram, and Yin,. I consider my teachers from afar to be Erich Schiffmann and Bernie Clark.
I am committed to breath work, postural alignment, logical sequencing, and having FUN in my classes. My training in Physical Therapy (AAOS NM licensed Physical Therapist Assistant) lends well to teaching safe and effective yoga classes.
Our bodies are capable of great change with dedication, patience, and a well-rounded practice of Yin&Yang Yoga. I’m a scientist by training and I am pleased to see the wealth of rigorous research on the benefits of yoga, particularly as we identify specific cellular and metabolic changes that occur. In order for health benefits to include yoga classes it is necessary to have scientific data backing it up.
